Over the course of World War II, dozens of men from Company G were killed in action, or died of wounds. It is difficult to ascertain the exact number. Records of the 182nd Infantry Regiment are inconsistent, and there are gaps in the unit’s World War II paperwork. In particular, the unit’s Morning Reports – daily reports detailing the changes in status of each soldier – are missing for several periods from 1941-1945. Thus, it is difficult to determine the exact list of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

A starting point for this research was found in the records of one of Company G’s men. Ed Monahan kept a neat, handwritten list of 53 names with his World War II memorabilia (Photo #1). The list contains only the last name and rank of the soldiers, with no other indicator as to its meaning. Research into the history of the unit revealed that each of these names was a soldier from Company G killed in action. The list appears to be chronologically ordered, by date of death. While it has not yet been determined with absolute certainty if this is a complete list of those killed during the war, preliminary research seems to indicate that it is fairly close to complete. On going research will attempt to identify other men from the company who were killed during the war.

The dates and locations of the death of those listed below has been determined from numerous different sources, including company records, interviews with veterans, and articles. This information is provided as accurately as possible at this time – further research will continue to narrow down these details as best as possible.

Photos of these men will be added as they become available. Currently, only a few photos have been collected. Additionally, photos of the graves of ten Company G men at the Manila American Cemetery are shown here, along with the names of four men listed on the memorial there to the Missing in Action from the Pacific theater of World War II. It is hoped that families of men who were killed will contribute additional photos and information in the future.
